National Cannabis Survey

The National Cannabis Survey is the survey that we will be conducting all around Nepal in collaboration with the Government of Nepal to find out more about Cannabis variety from different parts of Nepal.

Project Management

Our research uses Project Management software and methods to keep track of all our projects and make sure that all the tasks are being done. It ensures the completion of projects in time while also assigning people for the tasks.

Machine Learning

We also plan on using machine learning to identify manuscripts written in different ancient languages to identify the use of Cannabis so that it can be used later to create medicine formulations.

Are you ready to collaborate with us?

Kathmandu University is embarking on a journey of multi-dimensional research on cannabis (Scientific, Medical/therapeutics: Allopathic, Ayurveda, Amchi; Agriculture, Socio-Economic, Cultural and Religious aspects including policy/legal). We hope to prove that Nepal has “Unique Geographical Indication” of Cannabis. If we could prove and secure Nepal’s position, it will have a tremendous economic contribution for Nepal and her people in future!
We plan to closely work with various Government agencies for policy and legal advocacy and support, and also with other stakeholders (Academic Institutions/Industries/local government/NGOs & INGOs/advocacy groups etc.) for collaboration.
We urge Nepal Government to include in its 5 year plan for ‘geographical mapping of wild cannabis plant in Nepal’. Bhutan has already completed the survey of it at various altitudes! We should not be left behind!! We will be happy to support technologically!

One of our initial tasks will be to secure fund and to conduct “awareness campaign” to KU students and liaison with the government agencies.
I sincerely thank KU leadership (past and present) for always having futuristic thinking, approach and encouragement for the Research Development and Innovation in Nepal.

Future Plans

The Government of Nepal has not yet approved our request to do research on the cannabis plant itself.

Until then, our activities will be limited to literature searches, public service announcements, and using artificial intelligence to uncover the wisdom about cannabis as found in ancient Ayurvedic and Tibetan medical manuscripts.

Once our research is approved, we plan to conduct a National Cannabis Survey, to understand the genetics of Nepali wild and cultivated cannabis, the chemical profiles that come from these genetics, and their medical effects on humans and other mammals.

NCS

It is a national level cannabis survey using drones and UAVs to map cannabis all over Nepal. It would help to determine the areas where Cannabis is found abundantly and the composition and characteristics based on the region, altitude, temperature, climate and environment.

Specimen Analysis

We would be analyzing the different specimen from different areas, altitude and climate by following modern scientific methods and equipments.

Community Development

While doing the survey, the data that we collect from the drones and UAV’s can also be utilized for Community development. It helps to find the water sources, in planning of roads and many other developmental activities in a environment friendly, efficient and effective way.
